Sands of Time and other interesting interpretations on the met gala 2024 theme, “The Garden of Time”
Held annually, the Met Gala 2024 is a global phenomenon synonomous with the First Monday in May.
An annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the Met Gala has made the carpet established on the steps of the museum a global must-see fashion event.
Drawing its inspiration from this year’s exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and a reference to J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same name, the theme was “The Garden of Time”.

Balmain’s interpretation of The Garden of Time” took the concept of time and turned it into a gown called the ‘Sands of Time’ .
Tyla may not have been able to walk up steps but the look Balmain created for her complete with hourglass purse was the look of the night.
Also in Balmain, a glowing Elle Fanning channelled a fairytale glass garden statue.
Meanwhile, Gigi Hadid stunned in a spring inspired Thom Browne gown.
Exploring darker themes Rebecca Ferguson wore another Thom Browne creation featuring a crow motif on the lining of the cape she worn over her fitted gown.
A darker fairy tale also informed the first look we have seen from Sean McGirr the new Creative Director for Alexander McQueen.
Referencing the famous 2006 Widows of Culloden collection by Alexander McQueen Lana Del Ray glowed behind her sheer headpiece.
Loewe was one of the evening’s sponsors.
Greta Lee in a white floral lace gown wore Loewe’s best look of the night.
A close Loewe second was the embossed ‘timber’ bodice worn by Taylor Russell.
It was John Galliano’s night though.
Starting with Gwendoline Christie in a blood orange velvet gown by John Gallino for Maison Margiela.
Zendaya followed wearing not one, but two John Gallino looks.
The first from Maison Margiela and the second from the Givenchy archives.
Nicole Kidman dived into the archives too, wearing a Balenciaga look that is based on a 1951 Balenciaga design made famous by an iconic Richard Avedon photograph.
Sarah Jessica Parka in Richard Quinn stunned as did Janelle Monáe in Vera Wang.

It was sheer blushing pink ensemble worn by the beautiful Phoebe Dynevor.
