Why stylists focus on the details

Schiaparelli at the NGV Triennial

Recently we were lucky enough to see the Daniel Roseberry designed Schiaparelli looks showing at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Triennial.

It is an exhibition that eloquently distinguishes haute couture and ready-to-wear.

The collection includes the gold herringbone jacket first seen on the Paris haute couture runway for Schiaparelli in 2022.

It is breathtaking. The herringbone patterning of the gold pieces is truly a work of art.

Another highlight is an embellished denim jacket.

This jacket elevates denim out of the stratosphere.

The jacket style echoes military jackets of the 18th century.

It is just a little bit mind blowing.

Placement of a bright pink evening gown in the centre was the work of a bit of curatorial genius.

Creating a wonderful juxtaposition of style, the evening gown of seemingly much simpler construction, is the centrepiece.

Each look is seemingly shaped to the female form rather than suggesting that the women wearing the looks would contort themselves to the shape of the garment.

A key takeaway from seeing this work is how details are often the hero of style.

The attention to adding details to enhance design and ultimately style was a wonderful lesson to observe.
