Creating an eternal style

the art of reinvention

Creating an eternal style is down to mastering the art of constant reinvention.

This does not mean that you follow every trend.

Quite the reverse.

What you might think of a someone’s eternal style will be imbued with culture and history and commentary about what is acceptable and desirable.

Think about how pink is being worn in the second decade of the 21st century.

Creating an eternal style involves understanding:

  • what colours suit you;
  • silhouettes;
  • what is on trend; and
  • that experimentation never stops.

After that it is all about how you apply that knowledge.

What to avoid.

  • Sticking to the colours you wore when you were younger, and not reassessing your colours as your hair colour changes.
  • Not updating your basics or essential wardrobe regularly.
  • Keeping pieces beyond their style relevancy – yes, wearing skinny jeans will age you.
  • Not challenging the status quo when it comes to what and how you wear clothes.
  • Wearing pieces that do not fit or that are worn or that are damaged.

The favoured cuts and colours change.

Failing to update your clothing fundamentals will leave you with a tired rather than eternal style.

Fashion too is the art of reinvention.

The fashion cycle is short. It is easy to quickly lose touch with current style options and/or what suits you best.

Being aware of trends – silhouettes, styles, colours is important. Experimentation is essential. You might surprise yourself!

The key outtake for creating an eternal style is to keep curious about fashion and hone your skills at reinvention.
