take a second look!
Racing by in a blur during July was the Paris haute couture Autumn/Winter 2024 collections.
Mesmerising as they are, the Dior and Valentino collections captured our attention.
Surprising the Jean Paul Gaultier collection did not come into focus.
While researching another blog we took a second look at the collection.
Boy, are we happy we did.
Jean Paul Gaultier has been collaborating with guest designers for a few seasons.
Who can forget the amazing Haider Ackermann Spring/Summer 2023 Haute Couture collection for Gaultier!
Collaborating this season with Julien Dossena (DA Paco Rabanne) Jean Paul Gaultier codes ground this collection, but they are made softer and more accessible.
Famously, a Jean Paul Gaultier staple is the hourglass silhouette.
Refining the hourglass silhouette, Julien Dossena eschews Dior and Valentino’s minimalism, favouring stunning lace embellishment, embroidery, mesh, and a military aesthetic.
Hiding the collection’ sexiness is a sombre colour palette,
Starting with two highly tailored suits, the collection moves on using fringing, embroidery, and lace to evoke the boho chic of the 20’s while delivering stunning looks in silver and gold.
Corsetry is there but it is made softer using faux fur and the other textiles mentioned.
A military aesthetic informs the outwear and the satin and leather maxi skirts.
The military theme is also echoed in the chainmail style embellishment and outrageous faux fur hats. We are not sure a term exists that captures these art pieces.
In 2024 we look forward to this collection informing the high street fashion with military style outerwear, sexy satin maxi skirts, and metallic dresses all likely to feature.
