Layering up is one of the joys of Winter.

This season the style is soft and slightly oversized making it a good year to think about investing in a Winter coat.

Here are our tips if you are considering investing in a Winter coat.

when will it be worn?

How, when and where you plan to wear your coat is important.

If you are on the sidelines at kids’ sport, then a full-length puffer coat is the best option.

For those of you that experience milder Winter’s an anorak may fit the bill.

Consider a full length or car coat style for the office commute.

To get years of wear look for a piece made from a durable hard-wearing fabric.

A pure wool coat will last you for years if well cared for.

Leather coats are also incredibly durable.

Faux fur is a more seasonal option, so too synthetic fabrics.

A faux fur coat will create a stylish look but may not offer the durability.

trench coats

Trench coats are versatile and never go out of fashion.

Try a leather option for durability.

Canvas and Tencel options make for flexible trans seasonal options.

car coats

A car coat as its name suggests is the perfect commute style.

Length will vary but usually a car coat will finish at the top of your thighs.

Classic car coat styles come with a rounded shoulder, a looser fit, and has a single button.

The looser fit is perfect for wearing over a chunky knit or suit jacket.

If you prefer something more fitted, look for a pea coat or short trench coat style.

Capes are making their way back into style.

Usually in wool they button at the neck and drop to the floor.

This is a good option if you want a looser fit with drama.

Capes work as daywear but are perfect for a night out.

Cowl neck coats

Usually, single breasted, a cowl neck coat is perfect for pairing with scarves.

It is a good alternative to a puffer coat if you will be outside a lot.

If you are after season after season wearability, then a classically tailored belted, double, or single breasted full or three-quarter length coat is the best option.

Choose a classic colour – navy camel, red or black. You will probably get tired of this coat long before your coat wears out.
