Sheer and Mesh

How to wear this trend

Sheer and mesh appeared in virtually every collection during Australian Fashion Week.

It is a trend that followed cut outs which by the way are on their way out.

The sheer and mesh looks appear to be staying with us at least through to next Autumn.

Talking sheers and mesh during Winter seems nonsensical but products that reflect this trend are nonetheless in store now.

This need not be a trend only the young follow. Anyone can embrace this trend.

Sheer and mesh does not have to mean see through; tight fitting; or that the whole outfit is sheer.

During Winter wearing this trend is all about the layering and getting creative about how you interpret it.

This trend has as its sister the trend for softer styling. Read what softer styling means for jackets and blazers here.

Using this as your starting point the following will work for anyone wanting to explore this trend.

  • Select softly tailored pieces in silk for example that can be layered.
  • Wearing a mesh bodysuit or long sleeve turtleneck or polo top under an open weave knit is a stylish way to adapt this trend.
  • Style an open hole knit over a man style shirt to generate a touch of boho chic.
  • Dresses and tops with sheer sleeves and decolletages make for beautiful after 5 wear that are on trend.
  • Lace added as an embellishment or fully lined with a flesh toned fabric is another way to wear this trend.
