Suits are back!
As we progress through February your mind and feed might be starting to turn to dressing for the cooler months.
The key pre-Autumn trend is that suits are back!
Soft tailoring
For work and after hours its softly tailored suits with oversized jackets.
Structure and stiffness is gone, as is a tight fit.
Jackets are worn with slacks, pants, or trousers that have a relaxed fit.
Fabrics drape to enhance the relaxed look.
Structure is added via man-style vests and crip cotton shirts.
Brands to try to achieve this style include Witchery, Ginger and Smart, and Oroton.
European style
Entering the zeitgeist is White Lotus and its fashon sensibility.
Dresses have structure and the silhouette emphasises the waist.
White and cream dominate styles that have boatneck collars and wide shoulders.
Shirtwaist style dresses are perfect.
Brands to try for this style are Review, Seed and Seed’s sister brand Commonry.
1950’s glamour
If heading out, then your style inspiration is the glamourzons of the 1950’s.
The dresses are slinky, the shoulders sharp and wide.
Straight skirts, dropped waists, and full skirts are all trending. The emphasis is on creating a sinuous silhouette.
Skirts of any length work. For mini’s try a mini crini. Straight skirts end mid-calf. Maxi lengths come in full or straight skirt.
Select a fabric with some shine for that added touch of glamour.
Brands to try for this look include Bianca Spender, Sir the Label, Rebecca Vallance
Denim
Denim, in particular double denim is everywhere.
The proportions are generous.
Jeans with a wide leg and relaxed fit pool at your feet.
The jackets are cropped and tight fitting or oversized blazer style.
Brands to try for the current denim trends are Ellery, Levi’s, and Wrangler
Dresses and skirts over pants
Still love a mini skirt but think your days of wearing one are long gone? Not so.
Coinciding with the trend for creating more sustainable wardrobes is wearing skirts over pants. This includes the mini.
The length of the skirt or dress though is up to you.
Thanks, to designers like Thom Browne any length works when worn over pants.
The key is to wear the look with confidence.
A benefit of this trend is you get more wear out of your wardrobe!
If you haven’t tried to style this kind of look before:
- Start with a shirt waist style dress.
- Unbutton the dress fully.
- Add a tee underneath it.
- Wear the tee and unbuttoned dress over a slimline pant.
Once you have mastered this look you will be converted, I promise!
