Venice Film Festival Red Carpet

Suits are back!

Suits are back judging by the Venice Film Festival red carpet.

The more casual approach to workwear seen recently has suggested that suits are outdated.

Fashion designers have not got this memo. They are inviting us to enjoy bolder workwear.

Looking at the Venice Film Festival red carpet goddess looks gave way to suits, including two from Sigourney Weaver.

Sigourney Weaver’s style from the film Working Girl is a long term obsession. Time stops when I see her crossing an office wearing a suit with a silk blouse topped with a camel-coloured wool overcoat worn on her shoulders. Shoulder pads in the blouse, jacket and coat gave her the most Amazonian silhouette.

For the recent Venice Film Festival red carpet Sigourney chose a very businesslike red Valentino pant and single-breasted jacket. Olivia Wilde glowed in an apple green Chanel suit. Cate Blanchett looked cool and collected in pale blue. While Julianne Moore showed petite women how to wear a boxy style doubled breasted jacket. Greta Gerwig in contrast was all business in a stunningly fitted black Christian Dior suit.

Want a business suit for Spring with pizazz? Try the Leo Lin Spring suit.

If you are after something a bit more subtle Bianca Spender has a gorgeous myrtle green crepe jacket made from remnant fabric.

At Trenery, the change rendered by the new design team is on show. For Spring look at the single-breasted jackets in yellow, green, and orange.

As ever, Anna Thomas offers beautifully tailored suiting that will brighten the most boring of meetings.
