Can an algorithm improve your style is a question I considered when trying out the Mys Tyler app.

After a couple of forays on to the site, the limitation of the algorithm I found lay in how algorithms seek to codify style. What I think of as algorithmic determinism.

My conclusion is style defies algorithmic determinism.

We know algorithms work but when it comes to you developing your style the app can be a helpful tool but it does not match how a personal stylist adds value.

A personal stylist will listen and learn about what you want to achieve. They use this information to tailor your experience having regard to what is important to you without having to ‘standarise’ any metrics.
