Is #barbiecore / #barbiecon for you?

I have always loved pink. It is not so much a case of ‘pretty in pink’ but most pink shades suit me.

During the pandemic I took this to another level with the purchase of a Pom Amsterdam pink suit.

I love it and I love how people react to it.

It got me thinking about the current trend for pink and in particular #barbiecon.

The current #barbiecore trend is drawing inspiration from the stunning Pierpaolo Piccioli Valentino Ready to Wear Fall 2022 runway show held during Paris Fashion Week in March 2022. Read about it here. It introduced the world to #PP Pink.

Amping up the trend has been pictures of Margot Robbie from the from the #barbiemoive set.

With all this pink awash on the runway and on social media it is fair to ask, Is #barbiecore for you?

Is #barbiecore for you?

Pink is a colour that suits most women. BUT, women can find the idea of wearing pink a challenge. A sentiment that I understand.

It is undoubtedly the most political of colours.

Its power as a colour can be found in my suit, the #PP Pink Valentino runway collection and the ‘pussyhat’ won by women in the United Stated 2017 Women’s March.

The #barbiecore trend does not appeal as something empowering in the way my suit is for me and the ‘pussyhat’ was for the women marching in 2017.

This is a shame because wearing pink can create a wow factor in a way that few other colours can match. It can also be subtle and sophisticated – think blush pink silk shirt worn with a black of navy business suit.

If you find the current trend for bubble-gum barbie pinks a bit much but like me, it is a colour that suits you that you like to wear instead of #barbiecore try subtle touches of pink. For example, pairing pink with chocolate brown. Add a pair of pink socks, try rose quartz jewellery or opt for a pink shoe.

The current #barbiecore / #barbiecon trend will move on but the buzz that wearing pink can give you will always be in style.

Find the shade that suits you and enjoy the confidence that this wonderful colour can give you.

Alternatively, you might be inspired by the release of the Jane Goodall Barbie. Will this bring the return of the safari suit?
