HOW TO WEAR GREEN AND GOLD

Bottlegreen and Yellow Personal Styling was named for that quintessential Australian experience of being dressed in green and yellow. There are other colour options for an Australian school uniform – maroon is a colour that sends shivers down the spine of many but overwhelmingly green and yellow prevail. An Australian sport that we look forward every four years is critquing – often cruelly how these colours are styled for Olympic Uniforms. Recently the predominance of white in Australia’ Olympic uniform design has spoken the green and yellow styling challenges. But is it so hard?

In 2021 Indigenous designer Paul McCann rose to the challenge magnificently. The Gumnut Ball Gown he showcased for Australian Fashion Week speaks to the lack of imagination designers have bought to the challenge before him.

All is not lost though.

Romance Was Born is an Australian brand that has also absolutely captured the joy of green and yellow allbeit in totally different way with their Daisy Crochet Sweater.

Green and increasingly yellow continue to dominant runways. Internationally, there is less reluctance to embrace green and yellow and to style it beautifully whether blocking colours or using green to accent yellow and vice versa.

The latest 2022 collections of Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Prabul Gurung and Proenza Schouler all highlighted the potential of these colours in combination.

In 2022 I hope this trend continues with Australian designers and brands following Paul McCann’s lead and finding new, exciting and brilliant ways to use and style these two national colours.
