On the road Part 1:
02 Jan 2022

Having made many trips from Canberra to Adelaide across the NSW Hay Plain, a journey I have come to love, I have discovered many retail gems along the way. Every trip involves visiting previous finds and discovering new ones. Some highlights you might like to look out for include a label that is stocked by many regionally based retailers called Holiday This label was founded in the lovely seaside town of Robe SA, and if you find yourself in Robe they have a store at 15 Victoria Street, Robe SA. A feature of this brand is their summer casuals. I first discovered this label in the inland NSW town of the Narrandera at Juadine Interiors which shares its premises with the Red Door Café. Located at the top of the main street Juadine stocks homewares,, jewellery and clothing. One of the brands they carry is Goondiwindi Cotton. On this trip I picked up a lovely linen blazer in blue. The style is featured in the photos.

When in Narrandera stop by the jeweller which has affordable pieces that make great last-minute gifts.

I’m not the only fan of Narrandera. Her Canberra recently had a feature on the town, check it out here.

Travelling on to Mildura I like to stroll the Langtree Mall where Christmas carols play around the clock during the summer holidays. The Mall has been affected by COVID and there are many for lease signs but for classic country styling try George and Olive or a specialty regional retailer The Laboratory.

Heading into Adelaide – if you are calling into Remark SA in the Riverland try Dear Lyla. On this I trip though travelled through the Clare Valley and in Burra discovered the home grown local – Bullrush Clothing. Bullrush caters for the whole family – think RM Williams meets the polo set. Bullrush uses beautiful linens and cottons. It offers lovely, relaxed country styles perfect for a summer. If you are into stripes or after a stylish rugby jumper try this brand.

In Clare SA located in the the heart of the Clare Valley wine region on the main street you will find Grace and Maple who carry brands such as Morrison Clothing and Basque.

Also, on the main street as you head into Clare from Adelaide is the Blackman Gallery. The gallery carries the work of local artists including jeweller Richard Ivey whose work includes an interesting use of opals and pearls.

I can also recommend the Watervale Hotel in Watervale, and the Indii of Clare Indian Restaurant for dinner and Me, Myself & Isla also in Clare for takeaway.

In Part 2 I will look at shopping in Adelaide.
